4th, 5th & 6th Classes - Twas the Night Before Covid
Twas the night before covid when nobody knew
How bad things were going to get for me and you
People wandered the streets without fear
That all changed when covid came near
The following day at Knockanes school
All the children were sitting still in their stools
Leo announced all schools were to shut
And teachers and students went home in a rush
Everyone dashed to the shop for supplies
Everything disappeared to all our surprise!
The pasta, the rice, the flour and the soap
Everyone thought there was no hope.
The toilet paper was gone with none to spare
It seemed to have vanished into thin air
The shopping bags were hung on the hooks with care
In hope that toilet paper would soon be there
The children were nestled all nervous in bed
While visions of seesaw danced in their head
The children awoke and jumped with a start
Straight to their laptops to take part
Home schooling was long and very boring
All parents could hear was moaning and groaning
Soon that was ok because the summer holidays came
And we could go outside and play a game
Lockdown then ended, we went into level three
We could meet our friends again and it was good to see
We went to Cúl Camps and got our hair done,
It was all so fun!
People now wandered the streets without fear
Washing their hands and wearing their gear
People gathered in groups of six
Or else went on zoom and ate a twix!
Schools were back in action once more
And welcomed kids in through the big front door
We gave a nod as we liked our pod
In groups of 4 and no more
Sanitisers were hung on the wall with care,
In hopes a vaccine would soon be there
We stayed away from the other bubbles
So there would be no troubles
We were all so happy to see one another
That we laughed and cheered with each other
School was great there were no complaints
Level 5 came and it was a great pain
Cases kept climbing, what bad timing
Because Halloween was almost here
Trick or treating was gone and nothing was done
Children had to find other ways to have fun
We watched the cases drop
Wondering would it ever stop
We waited in hope for level three
Looking forward to putting up our Christmas tree
The Toy Show arrived And somehow we survived The month of November And then came December Now Christmas is near, We wish it was here And while Covid’s still close We wish for the most GAA is in December, It’s one thing we will all remember If Mayo win, They’ll shove the curse in the bin 2020 was a bumpy year It’s almost over so there’s no fear We hope that Covid will come to an end Happy Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!
